Do NOT take aspirin, ibuprofen or other blood thinners for 48 hours prior to your appointment. They can cause excessive bleeding during your appointment and also increase the pain of the tattoo.
-
Do not consume alcohol or caffeine (yes coffee) for 24 hours prior to your appointment. These work the same way as blood thinners and can cause issues with ink rejecting. Also more pain (let’s avoid that!)
-
Do not tan for 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Any active tans or burns cannot be tattooed over. You will put yourself at risk for losing your deposit, if you show up with newly tanned, or burned skin.
-
Plan your workout schedule for after your tattoo. It is best to avoid any heavy work outs for one week, that will cause excessive sweating. Light work outs are totally fine, but let’s avoid spin and hot yoga for a week!
-
Come to your appointment freshly showered!
-
Make sure to come to your appointment in comfortable clothing that has easy access to the area you will be tattooed in! For any intimate areas, bathing suits are always a great option!
-
Stay hydrated! Drink lots of water prior to and during your appointment!
-
Make sure to eat before you come! A good breakfast will make a huge difference!
-
Do NOT shave the desired area of your tattoo! Your artist will do this for you. Freshly shaved skin could have razor burn, in which case we could not tattoo you.

Your new tattoo will be covered with a layer of second skin. This skin has to stay on for a minimum of 5 hours and a maximum of 7 days. We recommend you keep the skin on for 3-5 days, depending on how well your skin typically heals from a scar. It is normal for your new tattoo to be red, leak lymph fluid and to look “gross” under the second skin. This is very typical, do not worry. If you notice a red irritation forming around the perimeter of the bandage, you may be having a skin reaction to the adhesive layer of the bandage. This is not abnormal. Just remove the bandage if you see this happening. If you know you react poorly to the second skin, we will wrap you with Saran Wrap and grip tape. In any case, if your dressing is on for LESS than 24 hours, you MUST keep your tattoo DRY for 24 hours. If your bandage is on, you are fine to shower, workout etc as it is completely waterproof. To remove your second skin, use warm water to gently remove. Clean your fresh tattoo with any fragrance free soap.
-
You will be provided with a healing ointment to care for your tattoo after you remove the second skin. This should be applied in small amounts to not over saturate the tattoo 2-3 times a day.
-
It is normal for your tattoo to be dry and itchy. DO NOT scratch or pick at the scabbing. This will lift the pigment and cause fallout. Gently apply your healing ointment on to help alleviate the itching.
-
Make sure to gently cleanse your tattoo once a day once scabbing has completed.
-
ONLY touch your tattoo with CLEAN hands.
-
Apply SPF after scabbing is complete to avoid fading.
-
Avoid the following
-
UV Rays (tanning and excessive sun exposure for 1-2 weeks)
-
Hot tubs, pools and saunas until scabbing is complete.
-
Products or makeup on the tattoo
-
Do not use a wash cloth or anything abrasive on your tattoo.
-
Do not use a harsh water stream in your shower, or excessively hot water.
-
NO picking, scratching.
